Markthal Rotterdam: worldly flavors under a spectacular ceiling
Since its opening in 2014, the Markthal has grown into one of Rotterdam's icons. The striking horseshoe-shaped building, designed by architectural firm MVRDV, brings together architecture, hospitality, and global flavors. Beneath the colorful ceiling, you will discover food stands, restaurants, specialty shops, and delicatessen stores. This makes the Markthal not only one of Rotterdam's most famous landmarks but also a popular place to eat, drink, and look around.
From street food to global flavors
The Markthal is the place to discover different flavors. You'll find a mix of food stands, restaurants, and specialty shops offering dishes and products from all over the world. In the mood for a quick lunch? Grab a portion of fresh fries at Bram Ladage or enjoy a bowl of ramen at Takumi Ramen Kitchen. Prefer a more elaborate meal? Pull up a chair at De Beren or discover the Korean cuisine at Soju Bar.
In between meals, you can browse specialty shops selling cheese, chocolate, nuts, olive oil, wine, and other delicacies to take home.
Architecture and art
The Markthal is more than a culinary hotspot. Apartments are also located in the building's arch, bringing living, shopping, and hospitality together under one roof.
Don't forget to look up during your visit. The ceiling is completely covered by Horn of Plenty, a colorful artwork of over 11,000 square meters by artists Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam. Due to its enormous size and vibrant colors, it is one of the largest artworks in the Netherlands and one of the most photographed spots in Rotterdam.
