Rotational’s night-out tips
Rotational (Karim Tazmi) is a Rotterdam-based DJ with an unrivalled collection of cassettes, CDs, USB sticks and vinyl from all over the world. He shares his finds on his own YouTube channel and a monthly radio show on the renowned NTS. On 12 September, he’ll be doing a B2B set with Schuurman during Festival Downtown. Radio Tornado will be hosting an evening of rousing music at Rotown. What are Rotational’s recommendations?

''I’ve been to loads of record shops, but one of the very best is right here in Rotterdam. De Oorzaak not only has breadth, with lots of genres side by side, but Jeroen also gives you depth within that. You’ll find your pop classics there, but just as easily the jazz and hip-hop that you’d spend ages searching for elsewhere. A real shop for diggers.''

''The place where so many firsts happened. Nightlife, cult films and mango beers. The last time I was here, I was with Príncipe from Lisbon. WORM is one of the few places where so much is possible.''

''Just for old times’ sake, here’s another one. It’s still one of my favourite places, and like so many wonderful things in Rotterdam, it no longer exists. I can still picture myself, eighteen years old, queuing outside BAHN. The sort of place where sweat was dripping from the ceiling. Afterwards, we popped down to the cellar across the street for an after-party."
