Billy Corgan visits de Doelen for two exclusive shows
Billy Corgan, best known as the frontman of The Smashing Pumpkins, is coming to de Doelen on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August. He will then perform a unique, large-scale orchestral interpretation of the iconic 1995 double album: Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Performed with a live orchestra and choir of 100 musicians in total. Ticket sales start Friday 12 June at noon via this link.
After a critically acclaimed run of seven performances last year at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, A Night of Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadness Featuring Billy Corgan will be followed by shows in London, Brussels, Antwerp, Paris, Madrid and Lisbon in September. But first up is the performance in Rotterdam.
The reinterpretation was composed by Billy Corgan himself in collaboration with Grammy-nominated conductor James Lowe. It forms an immersive aural and visual experience that blurs the boundaries between opera, rock and performance art. The costumes were designed by House of Gilles by Gilles Mendel and Chloé Mendel Corgan.
Billy Corgan: "The success of adapting Mellon Collie into an opera and classical work has been one of the most satisfying experiences of my life. Each of the seven sold-out nights in Chicago we closed amid a thunderous standing ovation. That we are now going on tour with it, and to Europe as well, proves that this magical dream doesn't have to end."
Conductor James Lowe: "It has been so satisfying to discover how the nuances and layers of Mellon Collie reveal themselves in fresh, new ways in these symphonic, choral and operatic arrangements. That I now have the opportunity to perform this work in Europe with world-class musicians in such important venues is downright exciting."
