Fear Factory, Fat Dog and The Bloody Beetroots at Baroeg Open Air

Baroeg Open Air will run over two days for the first time. On Friday 11 and Saturday 12 September, around 40 acts are set to perform at Rotterdam’s Zuiderpark as part of the open-air festival dedicated to hard and alternative music genres. On Friday, the line-up includes English punk legends the Buzzcocks, Rammstein tribute band Vannstein and post-punk sensation IST IST from Manchester. On Saturday, industrial metal band Fear Factory will close the Main Stage; before that, there will be performances by IJSLAND (Hang Youth frontman Abel, rapper Sef and producer Faisal), Fat Dog and Gladde Paling. Festival market

There’s plenty going on on the fringes of the festival. On Saturday, the festival market takes place, with various organisations from the rock and metal scene showcasing themselves. Visitors can pop by the stands run by Aardschok, No Guts No Glory, Rock Central and Vrienden Van Baroeg, amongst others. Just like last year, there’s also a special podcast area.

We’ve also thought of our youngest visitors: in the children’s corner, children can let off steam with activities including a face-painting corner, craft activities and a photo booth. Children up to the age of 12 have free entry to the festival on both days.

Cross-pollination between electronic music and guitar-based acts

Director Leon van Rijnsbergen says: “We’ve made the line-up even more varied to appeal to an even wider audience. In doing so, we have sought to bridge the gap between the different target audiences of the Electronic Stage and the Main Stage by creating space on both main stages for cross-pollination between electronic music and guitar-oriented acts. In addition, BOA is collaborating for the first time with the new festival Fiesta Futura, which will be using the same festival site in Rotterdam’s Zuiderpark on Sunday 13 September. However, we’ve noticed that some members of the Baroeg Open Air audience also wait until the last minute to buy a ticket, making it difficult to estimate the final number of visitors. Looking to the future, both for us and other organisers, I’m also concerned about event subsidies, which are under pressure. Nevertheless, we’re once again really looking forward to welcoming thousands of visitors to our wonderful festival.”
