Enjoy Smash burgers whilst watching a film at Pathé De Kuip

Smash has been based at Pathé Schouwburgplein since 2024. Many cinema-goers often pop in before or after a screening for a Smash burger. With its new location at Pathé De Kuip, Smash is taking things a step further from 28 October: visitors can take their burger into the cinema auditorium to enjoy it whilst watching the film.

As the most popular cinema in the Netherlands, Pathé De Kuip is a logical venue for the new concept. Furthermore, the cinema had the space to install a fully-fledged kitchen for Smash, meaning that the burgers can be freshly prepared on the premises.

Rients Schipper, Theatre Manager at Pathé De Kuip: “We’ve noticed that our visitors are increasingly looking for a complete and special night out. That starts, of course, with a good film, but for many people, good food is just as much a part of the experience. With Smash Burgers, we’re bringing a popular Rotterdam concept to Pathé De Kuip and giving visitors the chance to enjoy a freshly prepared burger whilst watching the film. This way, we’re making the cinema experience even more enjoyable.”

Rotterdam-style burgers of restaurant quality

Smash Burgers is a Rotterdam-based burger concept, founded by chef and entrepreneur Diego Buik. Since 2019, Buik has also been the owner of the successful burger restaurant Diego’s Burgers. In 2015, he won the title of Rotterdam’s Best Burger and attracted international attention in 2017 with one of the most expensive burgers in

a world created using, amongst other things, gold leaf, caviar and lobster.

At Pathé De Kuip, too, Smash remains true to the core of its concept: freshly baked buns, high-quality halal and vegetarian ingredients, signature sauces, with as little fuss as possible. Diego Buik, founder and chef at Smash Burgers: “I think it’s brilliant that you’ll soon be able to take a Smash burger straight into the cinema auditorium. We’re always working on innovating the dining experience, and as far as I’m concerned, this is a really great next step. We’re giving people something they’ve secretly been craving for years.”
