Jazzmeia Horn

The New York jazz vocalist and composer Jazzmeia Horn has been compared to illustrious names such as Sarah Vaughan and Betty Carter. It is not without reason that she won the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Competition no less than twice! In addition, Horn won the Thelonious Monk Institute Jazz Vocals Competition in 2015. Her matured singing and scats are of a dizzyingly high level full of rich tones, with which she adds strength to the music.

Her critically acclaimed debut A Social Call, which was nominated for a Grammy, features a rich musical palette on which Horn navigates between jazz, R&B and gospel, with African influences. In her lyrics she raises her fist in the air against injustice in society. The successors Love and Liberation and the third album Dear Love were also nominated for a Grammy.

Jazzmeia was praised by The New York Times as "one of the most exciting young vocalists in jazz, with a proud traditionalism that ties her firmly to the sound of classic vocalists like Nancy Wilson and Betty Carter, but with a vibrancy of spirit and conviction which places her firmly in the present." The Times also said: "Horn is the most talked-about jazz vocalist to emerge since Cécile McLorin Salvant and Gregory Porter both became stars." Tonight, in addition to pieces from her previous albums, she will also perform new work from her upcoming album Messages!
