International dance from China and Israel in new Scapino Ballet performance

Scapino Ballet Rotterdam presents two world premieres by emerging choreographers from China and Israel in the performance Origin. For Xingxing Gong, it is her first time creating a piece with a company outside China. Israeli talent Lior Tavori is also making his first work for Scapino. The performance will be performed for the first time at Theater Rotterdam on 13 April.

In Origin, dancers search for the source, of life and themselves. Life is celebrated, exuberantly with each other, searching for happiness and hope or as a remedy for fear and pain.

The scars the world inflicts on us

Within rapidly emerging modern dance in China, Xingxing Gong shows a strong voice of her own. Her dance piece for Scapino is about the strength and fragility of life. About the scars the world inflicts on us, from which new life can also emerge. Xingxing Gong won the Scapino production award at the well-known international choreographers' competition in Hanover

Choreographer Lior Tavori creates an intriguing mix between his roots in Israeli folk dance and modern dance. A confrontation between fixed group patterns and boundless freedom. In an energetic dance piece, he tries to bridge the gap between group identity and the individual. Tavori has his own dance company in Israel that regularly performs abroad.
