The 16 international participants for RIDCC have been selected

RIDCC (Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition) is proud to present the 16 selected choreographic talents for the sixth edition of the dance competition. With 324 applications, the pre-jury had a challenging task to select 16 duets to showcase their talent on stage. Among the selected participants are 12 nationalities. RIDCC will take place on 20, 21 and 22 June at Theater Rotterdam, where talented choreographers will compete for promising prizes. The grand prize, co-sponsored by Stichting Droom en Daad and Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, consists of a production budget worth €100,000.

The selected participants are: Jeremy Alberge (FR), Tu Hoang & Hiro Murata (NL/JP), Ayako Takahashi (JP), Jordan Johnson & Aidan Carberry (USA/USA), Shane Tyler Urton (USA/IT), Alessandra Ruggeri (IT), Andrea Costanzo Martini (IT), Milena Ugren Koulas (CY/RS), Gianni Notarnicola & Billy Barry (USA/IT), Omani Ormskirk (NL), Joanna Holowa Chrona & Yared Tilahun Cederlund (SE/SE), Kim Min (KR), Carla Cervantes Caro & Sandra Egido Ibañez (ES/ES), Candelaria Antelo & Arthur Bernard-Bazin (AR/FR), Nicolás Gatica & Victor Morales (CL/CL) and Antonin Comestaz (FR).

Maya Roest and Mischa van Leeuwen, founders and artistic directors of RIDCC, say the following about the sixth edition: "This year will bring RIDCC's 6th edition, we are proud to say that in recent years RIDCC has developed into the largest choreography competition in the world! With a growing international presence in Asia and North America, and even this year's first participants from South America, RIDCC remains committed to reaching all continents. Besides a competition with wonderful prizes, this edition offers a total experience for the 16 selected choreographers, with master classes, workshops and networking events. The audience can look forward to three evenings full of stunning short duets from all over the world, taking you on a journey through different cultures and dance styles. From Asia to South America, the 6th edition of RIDCC brings a global experience to the stage. Don't miss this unique journey and be enchanted by the diversity and creativity of the international choreographers. On Schouwburgplein, visitors can also enjoy RIDCC Brings Back, with performances by the first XL Production Award winners Danae & Dionysios. June can't come soon enough!"

Duets in Theatre Rotterdam

On Thursday 20 and Friday 21 June, the 16 duets will be shown on stage. A jury of international repute will decide which choreographers will advance to the grand finale on Saturday 22 June. During this spectacular finale, the winner of the XL Production Award will be announced. Partners of RIDCC, including Het Nationale Ballet, Club Guy & Roni and MiR Dance Company, will choose the winners of the Partner Awards from among all 16 participants. The audience will also play an important role during the evening, as they will vote and decide which talented choreographer will receive the Audience Award.

The internationally renowned jury for the sixth edition of RIDCC consists of:Samuel Wuersten, general and artistic director Holland Dance Festival (chairman) | Anouk van Dijk, choreographer & founder of Countertechnique | Joseph Toonga, hip-hop-inspired choreographer with The Royal Ballet, among others | Ann van den Broek, choreographer and artistic director of WArd/waRD | Nita Liem, physical theatre maker, performer and former artistic director of hip-hop dance/theatre company Don' t Hit Mama.

RIDCC Brings Back

Besides the duet competition, which takes centre stage, RIDCC presents RIDCC Brings Back on the theatre square. Where former contestants who have developed significantly in recent years and with whom RIDCC feels a strong kinship will be featured. This year, Danae & Dionysios (XL Production winners 2018) will return with two site-specific performances. In the afternoon, the choreographer duo will show a performance also suitable for young audiences, Napi, the girl and the bubble. This choreography tells the story of a fascinating friendship between a girl and a mysterious but familiar creature. They also present their latest work Fάrιsa, which follows two characters in their longing for connection and contact. Both plays will be performed as outdoor performances (four in total) on Friday and Saturday, on Schouwburgplein.
