Meshell Ndegeocello is Artist in Residence during NN North Sea Jazz

Among the 54 new names announced for NN North Sea Jazz 2024 are Jazmine Sullivan, she is performing in Europe for the first time, and Al Di Meola. Meshell Ndegeocello is this year's Artist in Residence. She will perform all festival days with a different project each day. Earlier, the arrival of Sting, Jamie Cullum and Raye, among others, was announced. The NN North Sea Jazz Festival will take place on 12, 13 and 14 July in Rotterdam Ahoy.

Meshell Ndegeocello

The music of singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Meshell Ndegeocello is actually too comprehensive for a label like jazz. Soul, funk and even hip-hop are also on Ndegeocello's mind. She demonstrated her versatility again on her latest album The Omnichord Real Book from 2023, with which she won a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Jazz Album earlier this year. It was her debut on the acclaimed Blue Note Records label and on the album, which was produced by saxophonist Josh Johnson, many North Sea Jazz celebrities collaborated, including Cory Henry, Jason Moran, Ambrose Akinmusire and Brandee Younger. The Omnichord Real Book was Ndgeocello's first album in five years and the follow-up to 2018's Ventriloquism, in which she reinterpreted existing R&B and pop hits.
