Oedipus

The people of Thebes once again perform their annual performance of Oedipus. Always good for entertainment and fun, but why does the director always get the leading role?

The story is the same every year and everyone knows it by heart, but sometimes someone suddenly plays a role that they have never played before. And that causes quite a bit of hilarity among other players. Oedipus' story is of course well known: he knows the answer to the riddle of the Sphinx, who is defeated by it, becomes king of Thebes and marries the widow of Laius, the previous king.

However, the plague is causing death and destruction and the oracle promises that this will end if Laius's murderer is punished. The murderer turns out to be Oedipus and he is also married to his natural mother, Iokaste. Oedipus can no longer bear this and gouges his eyes out. End of story. Quicksand makes it a special performance again.
