Historic Delfshaven
Delfshaven is a lively and historic place in Rotterdam.
A Vibrant Piece of History
Historic Delfshaven is a characteristic part of Rotterdam that has stood the test of time, despite the bombing in 1940. This place, where the Pilgrim Fathers once left for America, has a rich history as the birthplace of naval hero Piet Hein. Life here used to revolve around herring fishing and gin distilleries, but nowadays the historic canal houses exude a cozy atmosphere with antique and trinket shops, cafes and restaurants. Notable spots include the monumental Korenmolen De Distilleerketel, a reminder of Delfshaven’s gin-making history, Bierbrouwerij De Pelgrim and café De Oude Sluis, both with terraces by the harbour, and the unique restaurant ’t Ouwe Bruggetje, set directly on the water.
