The Esch

De Esch nature reserve is located behind the buildings of Rotterdam's old drinking water area. Here you walk on narrow sandy paths and between gigantic trees.

Nature reserve De Esch

Here you can pick blackberries, climb trees and watch wildflowers. Who knows, you might hear an owl calling in the tall trees.

Just outside the nature reserve, along the banks of the Maas, there are sandy beaches here and there. The current is too strong to swim in the river, but the bays are wonderful places to sunbathe or read a book.

Or walk into the De Esch residential area, where floating nature has been created on the large, old water basins of the drinking water company.
