Philosophical opera about being human

In this philosophical opera, 'Artificial By Nature', Nineties presents a profound exploration of what it means to be human. The performance investigates why we do what we do and what motivates us daily. Two robots attempt to put themselves in the shoes of humans, inspired by the ideas of philosopher Helmuth Plessner. Plessner argues that humans are artificial by nature; they experience themselves and can simultaneously observe themselves. Humans are not entirely at home in nature, like animals, but shape their own lives and the world around them. They do this through 'artificialities' such as language, technology, and tools.

The search for meaning

In 'Artificial By Nature', we see how humans move through life, sometimes stumbling. We search aimlessly and necessarily for meaning and purpose. This musical ode focuses on the struggling human, who is always on the way to becoming something—in the best case, themselves. Nineties presents a performance that makes you think about your own existence and the role of artificiality in our lives. The Oerol hit of 2024 is coming to theaters, and the show will premiere again in 2025.
