Mediterranean Bar Picar new on Schiedamse Vest

Jeroen Veenstra

The new Bar Picar opens on Schiedamse Vest. A Mediterranean food and drink bar for everyone who loves casual get-togethers. From colleagues who want to catch up after work to friends who spontaneously decide to turn the evening into the night.

The bold and uncomplicated menu includes hot and cold dishes to share, classics with a contemporary twist and a wide range of vegetarian options. From cava with pinchos to sea bass ceviche, sangria and gnocchi. Everything comes to the table as soon as it's ready - no set order, just a perfect flow that suits the relaxed Mediterranean dining culture.

Experienced hospitality entrepreneurs

Bar Picar was founded by hospitality entrepreneurs Sippien Baarsma and Joep van den Bersselaar, both no strangers in hospitality land with Vegitalian, for example. Bar Picar's concept builds on the success of Utrecht concepts Ruby Rose and Paloma, but will have a unique Rotterdam identity.

''With Bar Picar, we want to create a place where you can eat and drink great food and everyone feels welcome. We bring our experience, but let ourselves be completely inspired by the energy of this city. Rotterdam is always open to innovation and here different cultures flow together. Our concept - where meat, fish and vegetarian dishes coexist equally - fits perfectly here for that reason,'' says Sippien.

The high tables and stools are a deliberate choice. High tables break down barriers: they make it easier to engage in conversation, meet new people and maintain the casual atmosphere that is precisely characteristic of Mediterranean dining culture. Perfect for small groups wanting to have drinks, but also for larger groups of friends who want to stay all evening. The terrace lends itself perfectly to long summer evenings, overlooking the bustling Rotterdam street life of the Witte de Withstraat.

The interior is characterised by natural materials and colours. From warm earthy tones like bordeaux and orange to wooden details that add warmth to the space. This colour palette evokes associations with the Spanish costas and Italian vineyards, but at the same time keeps the raw, honest energy of Rotterdam.
