Keti Koti 2026 Cultuur zijn wij samen

We are culture together

Together we celebrate Keti Koti 2026

The Shared Past, Shared Future Foundation, together with De Doelen Rotterdam, is organizing a special Keti Koti celebration. This year, the event focuses on children and families. Keti Koti, which means 'broken chains,' is a day to reflect on freedom, history, and connectedness. You are warmly welcome to participate, commemorate, and meet new people. Especially for children, there are various activities that introduce them to Surinamese culture and history in a fun and educational way.

Activities and workshops for children

Discover various activities during Keti Koti 2026. Children can participate in Awassa Dance and Capoeira workshops, suitable for different age groups. You will learn rhythmic movements and be introduced to Brazilian musical instruments. Additionally, there are market stalls where you can find traditional children's clothing and children's books. There is also a mini-workshop on making beaded bracelets. You can register for the dance and Capoeira workshops by emailing afro_creole@yahoo.com , mentioning the workshop and age category.

Creativity and relaxation

In the Small Hall, artists guide children in creating a collaborative artwork. Here, children capture their creative ideas about Keti Koti. This contributes to the message 'We are culture together'. For a quiet moment, Studio 5 offers a spot where children can listen to stories about the history of Keti Koti. DJ Kofi The Unknown provides fitting music throughout the day. The day concludes festively with a performance by De TwinDolls , a kids' brand that encourages self-confidence and dreams. They will take you along with their joyful singing and dancing.
