Jeroen Veenstra

Now that the weather is getting better, eating and drinking outdoors is great. In the garden, on the balcony or outside your door on the street. Or at one of these food festivals.

Festival TREK

Festival TREK is a touring food festival that passes through 9 cities. The first stop is traditionally in the Vroesenpark and it also kicks off the season of food festivals in Rotterdam. From Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 May, the festival is again free to visit. There will be food and drinks from dozens of food trucks. From burgers and well-filled bowls to pizzas and creative vegan dishes. In between there will be performances by regional talent and the Silent Disco in the evening. Children will have fun at the children's theatre, nostalgic fairground attractions or the wide range of old Dutch games.

Cape Anniversary Festival

Kaapse Brouwers is celebrating its 11th anniversary. This will be celebrated 17 May (as part of the Rotterdam Beer 10-day) with a festival at De Kaai. An (inter)national group of befriended breweries has been invited, such as Sleeping Village from Norway and Spanish Laugar Brewing. In addition, Go Good Craft Wines will pour a selection of wines and Booij Kaasmakers, Ministry of Happiness and Asian College Cuisine will serve food.

Tickets can be ordered via this link.

African food festival

After editions in Afrikaanderpark and Schouwburgplein, the third African Food Festival will be in Museumpark on 19 July. During AFF, it is possible to taste local delicacies from all over the continent. Several African restaurants and chefs will present their culinary creations to the public. There will also be performances, workshops, exhibitions and entertainment for kids.

The Wine Festival

Wine lovers from the wider Rotterdam area can visit the Grotekerkplein on 15 and 16 August. More than 100 different wines will be offered by local entrepreneurs at The Wine Festival. For entertainment, various games will be played and a DJ will provide atmospheric music. The Wine Festival thus tries to create a burgundian setting where enjoyment is central.

People of all ages are welcome at the Wine Festijn; non-alcoholic and soft drinks are available in addition to wine and beer. The Wine Festijn has sold out the previous two years in presale. Tickets are now available through this link.
