Sfeervol Festival of Lessons and Carols, Engelse Kerstmuziek

On Friday, December 12, 2025, at 8:00 p.m., the Voorburgs Vocaal Ensemble presents a moving Festival of Lessons and Carols in the atmospheric Oude Kerk Charlois. Led by conductor Marijke van Klaveren—since 1987 the artistic heart and driving force of the choir—the ensemble will perform a varied program featuring traditional English carols and liturgical readings.

The Ensemble, an intimate chamber choir of approximately 26 passionate singers, was founded in 1978 and is renowned for its wide-ranging repertoire, spanning from Renaissance music to late Romantic and contemporary impressionist choral works. Past performances have included Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and Mozart’s Requiem, often collaborating with soloists and instrumentalists, with special attention to lesser-known works by Britten, Rheinberger, Nystedt, and Liszt.

Conductor Marijke van Klaveren—trained in choral conducting, organ, and church music at the conservatories of The Hague and Rotterdam—leads the Ensemble with passion and precision (Voorburgs Vocaal Ensemble). Additionally, she teaches at the School voor Jong Talent at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and the Academy of Vocal Arts, provides workshops, serves on international choral competition juries, and actively trains conductors of children’s and youth choirs.
