Music Hole Steven Michel / GRIP
For his new creation ‘Music Hole’, Steven Michel takes the figure of the ghost as a starting point to question our relationship with the passing of time, memory and the invisible.
Inspired by spiritualist practices and the concept of hauntology, which refers to ghostly traces that seep through time, infiltrating the present and thus evoking impressions of 'déjà-vu', the choreographer explores and translates this ghostly imagination to the stage.
How do ghosts manifest themselves today? How can bodies transmit this invisible presence? How do these ghosts penetrate our reality? How can a body be traversed by movements from the past, present, and future?
In a transitional area, where sounds and flashes of light haunt, four performers allow themselves to be overwhelmed by gestures, words, images, sensations, memories, hallucinated matter, and fictions. Between dance mania, cathartic performance, and contemporary phantasmagoria, ‘Music Hole’ offers a sensory and subliminal journey through our psyche and our beliefs.
