With Ceci n’est pas Noire: Act II, Alesandra Seutin presents a performance that views the body as a site of echo and cultural resonance – a place where perceptions surrounding identity and belonging are constantly transforming.

This immersive creation reflects on Alesandra’s experience as a person of both white European and Black South African descent; a constant negotiation between intimacy and exposure, vulnerability and projection. Ceci n’est pas Noire: Act II is about accepting inner tensions within the discovery of one’s own truth.

Between surreal visions and hybrid narrative forms, the piece unfolds through an episodic structure, interspersed with multiple characters that are effortlessly embodied through Seutin’s movement vocabulary. Gestures, vocals and live sounds intertwine, evoking memories, traversing geographical and personal landscapes, and revealing the layered complexity of a hybrid identity.

In Ceci n’est pas Noire: Act II, Seutin re-explores her eponymous 2013 creation. She skillfully weaves together theatrical devices to (re)discover themes such as the external gaze, transformation and assumed social roles, and to question how fluid and deceptive appearances can be.
