Beethoven 5: Herdenkingsconcert Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest
Roukens, Dove, and Beethoven: three ways to defy fate.
What do you do when fate knocks at the door and destroys your world? Do you resist it, in the spirit of Beethoven’s invincible Fifth? Do you reach an enlightened state of detachment, as in Jonathan Dove’s otherworldly beautiful Hojoki, with countertenor Hugh Cutting as the ideal soloist? Or do you find, like Joey Roukens, a new answer? Food for thought, 87 years after the bombing of Rotterdam.
