50 jaar North Sea Jazz Fotografie
The leading music festival North Sea Jazz celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. To mark this jubilee, Kunsthal Rotterdam, in collaboration with North Sea Jazz and main partner Nationale-Nederlanden, presents the exhibition 50 Years of North Sea Jazz Photography. From September 5, work by photographers Paul Bergen, Rico D'Rozario, and Andreas Terlaak, who have captured the festival throughout the years, will be on display in HAL 7 of the Kunsthal.
Her Majesty Queen Máxima opened the anniversary edition of the NN North Sea Jazz Festival this summer, which took place this year on July 10, 11, and 12 at Ahoy Rotterdam. Fifty years ago, the first edition was held at the Netherlands Congress Centre in The Hague. The initial figures: six concert halls, three hundred musicians, and nine thousand visitors. The festival has since developed into a major international event. It is known for its programming of the greatest names in jazz history, including Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Herbie Hancock, and Wynton Marsalis, alongside famous soul and blues artists such as James Brown, Ray Charles, Prince, Erykah Badu, Alicia Keys, and BB King.
New talent
In addition, the festival offers a platform to new talent. Artists who would later make a name for themselves, including Roy Hargrove, Jacob Collier, Ibrahim Maalouf, Gregory Porter, and Amy Winehouse, made their festival debut at North Sea Jazz and performed at the start of their careers in one of the festival's many small venues. Adele and D'Angelo also made their Dutch festival debut at North Sea Jazz. The presentation 50 Years of North Sea Jazz Photography takes visitors to the Kunsthal on a tour through behind-the-scenes footage and photos of iconic performances.

Rotterdam Coffee Fest celebrates Rotterdam’s coffee culture
Rotterdam Coffee Fest returns from 5 to 8 November for its second edition. It will feature a more extensive programme, *De Doelen* as a new venue, and four days of coffee culture across Rotterdam.
