Kunsthal Rotterdam
Kunsthal Rotterdam is known for its dynamic and surprising programme, suitable for a wide audience. From design to fashion, photography and paintings: that and more is covered in the exhibitions.
Kunsthal Rotterdam: Dynamic Art Space with Ever-Changing Exhibitions
Kunsthal Rotterdam, located on the Westzeedijk in the Museumpark, opened in 1992 in a striking, modern building. Its design is known for an open layout and a dynamic route through the space, connecting multiple levels and viewpoints. With over 3,300 square metres of exhibition space across seven galleries, it offers a flexible setting for a constantly changing programme.
Unlike traditional museums, the Kunsthal does not have a permanent collection. This allows for a wide variety of exhibitions and a high turnover, covering topics from art and photography to fashion, design and culture.
Exhibitions and Programme
With more than twenty exhibitions each year, the Kunsthal presents a diverse and often unexpected mix of disciplines. Several exhibitions run at the same time, creating new perspectives and combinations for visitors.
In addition to exhibitions, the Kunsthal hosts a range of events. Friday Night Live invites local creatives to take over the space for an evening of music, performances and art. There are also public programmes such as KunstKoppels and activities for children, including drawing and storytelling sessions.
Auditorium, Café and Shop
The auditorium, known for its colourful design chairs, hosts talks, lectures and masterclasses. On the ground floor, the Kunsthalcafé offers a place for coffee, lunch or drinks. The shop features books, design items and products linked to current exhibitions, as well as Rotterdam-inspired souvenirs.
