Autumn 1943. When Rosa flees bombed-out Berlin and moves in with her in-laws in the rural East Prussian countryside, she hopes to leave the war behind for a while. But nearby lies the heavily guarded Wolfsschanze, Hitler's headquarters. Before long, she and a group of young women are picked up by the SS and forced to taste Hitler's meals.
What begins as an apparently privileged position, daily abundance in times of scarcity, quickly turns into a nightmare. Every bite could be poisoned. As the threat from outside grows and suspicion creeps in, a complex bond forms among the women, woven from fear, rivalry, and solidarity.
The Tasters turns away from the powerful figures of the war and focuses instead on the women forced to survive in its shadow. Based on a true story.
