DΩ (Dohm) takes inspiration from spherical architecture of Mallegatpark
Jeroen Veenstra
The multidisciplinary series DΩ (pronounced Dohm) celebrates its fifth anniversary edition at the iconic Domes of Mallegatpark on 18 and 19 October. The two-day event, inspired by the spherical architecture of the gas holders, is dedicated to innovative electronic music, audiovisual art and community building. Tickets are available via this link. On Saturday and Sunday, the programme starts 3pm to 11pm.
What started as a one-day event has grown into a festival with hundreds of visitors from inside and outside Rotterdam. Dohm has proven to be a vital platform for the electronic scene in Zuid, partly due to conscious connection with the neighbourhood through local programming and actions.
The two Domes are the perfect, unique setting for the concept. In the large dome, Dohm creates a circular stage with a custom-made, crystal-clear sound system. As a result, artist and audience are literally in a shared space, without hierarchical distinctions. Performances take place at different points in the space, creating an intimate and immersive experience.
The small dome acts as a temporary restaurant, exhibition space and place for quiet performances during the event. The art collective Trefoil will set up an intimate exhibition here, while creative chef Ronja Calle will provide a culinary experience perfectly suited to the atmosphere.
