The New Current
The New Current is a large-scale exhibition that you don't look at, but enter.
During Rotterdam Art Week, a raw industrial location transforms into a sensory environment of installations, moving images, and sound. No individual works on the wall, but one continuous experience where art, space, and audience converge.
You walk through dark and open spaces, past works that whisper, confront, or even still. Light shifts, sound travels along, perspectives change as you move. The New Current requires no prior knowledge, only attention and curiosity.
During the Rotterdam Art Week - Connections
For the 2026 edition, The New Current will take over the former Hunter Douglas Factory: 3,500 m² of industrial space, completely transformed into an immersive exhibition. Twenty-four large-scale works by 26 artists will form a single interconnected landscape.
The theme "Connections" revolves around how we relate to each other, to technology, and to the space around us. The works interlock, overlap, and interact. There's no fixed route, no beginning or end. You discover the exhibition as you move, at your own pace.
Some installations draw you in, others keep you at a distance. Sound, scale, and materials shape the experience without fixing it. What you experience is created along the way.
The New Current 2026 is a physical, multi-layered exhibition that must be experienced.
A place to wander, to look and to step out of the city for a while while being in the heart of it.
