Patchwork System workshop

Where were your old sneakers actually made? What journey did the material take before it ended up here? And how can we take responsibility for the materials we produce, use, and leave behind? During this workshop, you will map out the materials and background of your old sneakers and incorporate them into a collective wall hanging. Using the Patchwork System Toolkit, developed by researcher Mariana Pereira Silva, you will explore the origin and value of material during this workshop. Participants are asked to bring a pair of worn-out sneakers as input. Together with Peterson Stoop, you will examine the materials brought along and map out the stories connected to them. You will process the parts of discarded sneakers into new inserts for the collective Patchwork System wall hanging — a piece of which you can ‘adopt’ yourself afterwards.
