Singer MEROL has caused quite a stir in the Netherlands with her Dutch-language electro pop, laced with elements of Italo disco and house music. She has been a unique voice for years, using her distinctive, creative and humorous texts to reflect on the current zeitgeist and to critically observe people and society. As a former actress (you might recognize her from the blockbuster “Soldaat Van Oranje”) she creates a safe space for sexual freedom and expression with her explicit songs. Hits such as “Ik Wil Een Kind Van Jou” and “Lekker Met De Meiden” are deliberately a bit cheeky, with the aim of opening conversations about relationship and sex taboos.

MEROL is known for its self-mockery, iconic costumes, feminist statements and unique interactive moments with the audience. In early 2024, she released the song “Vernissage” with Belgian artist Gustaph, and will release her second album in the fall. Her music is an ode to all late bloomers and outsiders. “Don't worry about the expectations of others and set your own standards. Just give me that Consolation Prize,” says MEROL himself.
