The Kunsthal is organizing Art Couples on Tuesday, September 8. During Art Couples, you will meet someone at the Kunsthal who is completely new and unknown to you. Someone from a different generation, background, or way of life. Together, you will visit the exhibition Helen Levitt. City at Play.
View a major retrospective of the work of Helen Levitt (1913–2009), one of the most important street photographers of the twentieth century, at the Kunsthal. With over 220 photographs, a film, and color slides, compiled for the first time from her complete archive, City at Play showcases more than fifty years of work. Throughout her career, Levitt photographed life on the streets of New York: children under the water of a fire hydrant, women whispering to each other in a doorway, a couple in love on the subway. Never posed or sensational, but with subtle humor, tenderness, and an eye for the ordinary.
You are very welcome to stay a little longer after the program. Coffee and tea will be served in the Auditorium afterwards. All exhibitions in the Kunsthal are open until 5:00 PM.
Photographs will be taken during KunstKoppels. By participating in the event, you agree to the use of these images by Kunsthal Rotterdam.
