Jazz in Crooswijk - Epoxy Quartet

Epoxy Quartet is an adventurous ensemble led by Dutch pianist and composer Koen Gijsman. The quartet consists of four award-winning musicians: Koen Gijsman (piano), Kasper Rietkerk (saxophones), Tuomas Ruokonen (drums) and Kim Jäger (cello), all experienced improvisers and composers.

Their music moves between free improvisation and contemporary jazz composition, where dynamic interplay and evocative soundscapes meet. The ensemble draws inspiration from the Dutch avant-garde of the 1960s and the impressionistic colors of Ravel and Debussy.

The name Epoxy Quartet honors Koen’s grandfather, a pioneer in epoxy production, and their debut album is dedicated to him. The album artwork by Conor Hunter depicts the Oosterscheldekering, built with epoxy from his grandfather’s factory. Epoxy Quartet merges individual voices into a powerful, expressive whole.
