Gitaarsalon Hosts: Matthew McAllister

From September 2026, the Gitaarsalon will settle in the Batavierhuis with a monthly concert series entirely dedicated to the guitar. For over 25 years, the Gitaarsalon has been a household name in the Netherlands, with a gigantic Guitar Festival at the Zuiderzeemuseum and two concert series in Enkhuizen.

Every last Sunday of the month (subject to change), a beautiful guitar concert can be admired in the afternoon at the Batavierhuis. Curious about what the guitar has to offer, and who the new promising talents are in the Dutch guitar world? Then come and listen and watch.

Matthew is widely regarded as one of the most captivating and talented guitarists in Europe and has been enchanting audiences worldwide for over ten years with his thoughtful performances and natural stage presence.

Matthew has performed in major venues all over the world, such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Purcell Room and St Martin in the Fields in London, the Teatro Británico in Lima, The Sage in Gateshead, Cenart in Mexico City, Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, the Eugene O'Neil Theater in San José, and Dom Armije in Sarajevo, to name just a few. Matthew has undertaken extensive tours throughout North and South America, Canada, Europe, and Asia, both as a soloist and chamber musician, and has also built up an extensive discography with Baros Records.

Matthew recently started a duo project with guitarist and composer Matthew Cochran. The duo has quickly established itself as an important new voice in the guitar world through a combination of unique programming and warm, relaxed chemistry on stage.

As a teacher, Matthew holds the position of Classical Guitar Teacher at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and is the Director of the Classical Guitar Retreat.
