Expeditie BlueCity + Workshop textiel verven met schimmels

  • Workshop

Dive into the old Tropicana swimming pool and work with fashion designer Ilse Kremer of Fabulous Fungi using natural textile dyes based on fungi.

During Circular Economy Week, delve into BlueCity's circular ecosystem and work with fashion designer Ilse Kremer of Fabulous Fungi using natural fungus-based textile dyes. You'll go home with your own handmade bag made from upcycled and naturally dyed fabrics.

During a BlueCity Expedition, you'll immerse yourself in the circular world of BlueCity in a single afternoon, taking a tour of the former subtropical swimming paradise. Here, you'll smell, taste, and see how the circular economy is being put into practice at BlueCity! The tour will be led by Emma van der Leest, founder of BlueCity Lab, the world's first circularly built biolab.

Workshop textile dyeing with fungi + bag making

During this Expedition, you'll not only discover inspiring examples of the circular economy from BlueCity entrepreneurs; you'll also get hands-on experience. Besides the tour, you'll work with BlueCitizen Ilse Kremer in the BlueCity Lab. In this workshop, you'll make your own bag using recycled fabrics (lace), which you'll dye on-site with sustainable color pigments derived from fungi.

About Fabulous Fungi

The textile industry has long been known for its polluting processes, from water contamination to the excessive use of harmful chemicals. With her company Fabulous Fungi, Ilse Kremer is working on a sustainable alternative to harmful synthetic textile dyes. What began as a graduation project has grown into an ambitious circular startup, through which the fashion designer extracts pigments from various fungal species.

Please note: the language used during this workshop is English.
