Día de Muertos: Lo Poloko
As is their annual custom, Lo Poloko takes you to the land of the dead with their mariachi Balkan brass and bombastic Latin grooves.
This year, we are celebrating Día de Muertos again with Lo Poloko! Lo Poloko is a collective of musicians with deep roots in Mexican, Chilean, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese cultures who found each other in Rotterdam. With their stunning sonic journey around the world, they will turn it into a real Big Tropical Bang at GROUNDS this year as well. From Balkan Mariachi and bombastic Latin grooves to super energetic percussion, it is a unique combination of sounds designed to make you dance as if it were your last day on earth. Día de Muertos is a two-day holiday that reunites the living and the dead. Families make “ofrendas” (offerings) to honor their deceased relatives and to encourage those departed souls to leave the land of the dead and celebrate the holiday with the living. Feel free to bring your own “ofrendas” to the party and join in this amazing celebration! Latin forms the basis of all their music. Yet, they continue to search endlessly for new sounds. Countless different styles are fed into the Lo Poloko machine. Rock, Ska, Cumbia, Reggae, Balkan, Dub… they play it all!
