Bondru Dey | Tori fu den owru wan & Baas Berg Vereniging Plantage Matuaribo X Stichting Bigi Prisiri X Theater Zuidplein

During Srefidensi, we celebrate the stories of the past with Bondru Dey, through history and cultural heritage. With a special afternoon programme revolving around all the 'tori's' (stories) of the past, it promises to be nothing less than a pleasant day with snacks, stories, music, comedy and more!

Bondru means bringing together. On this special Srefidensi-dag, we bring young and old together around stories, history, and cultural heritage.

Central to this is tori (stories), inspired by the Surinamese odo: ‘Tori owru, ma a no buku’. An old story does not spoil. Stories remain valuable, precisely because they are passed on from generation to generation.

During Srefidensi, we share stories about freedom, independence, family, migration, and culture. Stories that connect, inspire, and keep memories alive. A day full of personal encounters, music, art, an exhibition, historical footage, children's activities, language, food, and getting together.

Morning programme | 10.30 - 17.00 hours

Under the title ‘Tori fu den owru wan’, the personal stories of the elderly take centre stage. They share memories of their youth, family, migration, Srefidensi 1975, and life between Suriname and the Netherlands.

The rich Surinamese storytelling tradition also comes to life. Visitors can recognise and share well-known Surinamese odo’s and discover the stories, lessons, and wisdom hidden behind them.

Afternoon programme | 14.00 - 17.00 hours

In the afternoon, young and old meet each other. Children and young people will talk to the elderly and collect a story that they believe should still be told in fifty years' time.

From 15.30 hours, Baas Berg will provide an interactive and musical conclusion to the day. With well-known Surinamese songs, shared memories, singing together, and meeting, we will bring Bondru to a festive close.

Open to everyone | 18.00 - 20.00 hours

Bondru Social, a social drop-in moment for young adults and the general public, will take place from 18.00 to 20.00 hours in the hall. The focus will be on music, short Tori-films, an exhibition, a story wall, and Surinamese snacks and drinks.
