Aan tafel met de buren: speciale editie met films en diner
During this special edition of Aan tafel met de buren, you will watch Dreamers and A World Not Ours: two films about people who leave their homes, are trapped in systems, or have been living with the consequences of migration for generations. Afterwards, you will join us for a communal dinner in collaboration with Stichting Mano.
Films about migration and home
At this event, you will see the films Dreamers and A World Not Ours . These films are about people leaving their homes and how they cope with migration. You will gain insight into the consequences of migration for individuals and families. The films offer different perspectives on life in detention centers and refugee camps and show the resilience of people.
Dreamers : A future outside the gates
Dreamers (2025) tells the story of Isio, a Nigerian migrant. She is detained in a detention center in the United Kingdom. Amidst the uncertainty, she finds support in another woman. Together, they dream of a life outside the walls of the center. Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor directed this film, in which she gives a platform to often underrepresented voices.
A World Not Ours : Three generations in a camp
A World Not Ours (2012) takes you to the Ein el-Helweh refugee camp in South Lebanon. The film follows three generations and makes use of family films and archival footage spanning more than 20 years. This creates a personal and moving portrayal of friendship, family, and memories. Director Mahdi Fleifel himself grew up partly in this camp, which gives the film an extra personal layer.
Joint dinner with the Mano Foundation
After the films, you will enjoy a communal dinner. Stichting Mano organizes this dinner, which you can join for 5 euros. The film screenings themselves are free of charge.
