Rotterdam's oldest venue Baroeg reopens doors on Spinozaweg

Since 1981, Baroeg has been a household name in Rotterdam. As a home base for (hard) alternative music and enjoys a national and international reputation. Artists like Within Temptation, Volbeat and Epica were on stage as well as Rotterdam icons like Raven van Dorst, Jules Deelder and Frederique Spigt. But in April 2024, Baroeg closed its doors, as the building was badly outdated and in need of replacement. At the beginning of April, there will first be a number of try-out shows, but on Saturday 25 April, the new building will officially open.

During the opening, there will be a toast to the new chapter in the presence of Alderman Kasmi and live music. Alternative rock band Red Night, through the talent development project Rock Central, has already been confirmed; more bands will be announced soon.

The new building includes a concert hall with stage, backstage facilities such as loading dock and dressing rooms with sanitary facilities, a kitchen, green room, café with bar, audience facilities, offices and a spacious entrance.

Alderman Kasmi (including Culture) is delighted with the upcoming opening. "Pop stage Baroeg is of enormous importance to Rotterdam's cultural climate and also serves fans far beyond the city limits. It puts Rotterdam further on the map musically and culturally internationally."

A crowdfunding campaign is also currently under way: Back Baroeg to help realise the furnishings
