Pixies is coming to the Maassilo

Jeroen Veenstra

The iconic American band Pixies is coming to the Maassilo in Rotterdam on Friday 17 July 2026 to celebrate 40 years since the band was formed. Pixies is considered one of the most influential bands of the alternative music scene. Ticket sales for P40 - Celebrating 40 Years will start Friday 26 September at 11am via Rotown's site.

Formed in 1986 in Boston, Pixies have been relevant and continue to innovate for four decades. With their unmistakable blend of ripping guitars, surreal lyrics and explosive dynamics, they have influenced several generations of musicians; from Nirvana and Radiohead to The Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer.

Since their debut with the mini-album Come On Pilgrim (1987) and the groundbreaking Surfer Rosa (1988), Pixies set the tone for what would become alternative rock. The legendary Doolittle (1989) catapulted the band to a wider audience, with classics such as 'Debaser', 'Monkey Gone To Heaven', 'Here Comes Your Man' and the iconic 'Where Is My Mind'.

After their 1993 break-up, the band's popularity only continued to grow. Since their reunion in 2004, they have been drawing full houses worldwide and released four new albums, the most recent being The Night the Zombies Came (2024). With bassist Emma Richardson (ex-Band of Skulls) as their newest addition, the band continues to evolve without losing their original, uncompromising sound.
