Artists turn Beverwaard into open-air museum during ALL CAPS

Jeroen Veenstra

Street art festival ALL CAPS has been making neighbourhoods more colourful for many years. Artists from all over the world will set to work in Beverwaard from 7 September. This year, ALL CAPS is dedicated to female role models. For instance, 50 power women will be portrayed with street mosaics. Also present will be the legendary, 82-year-old Martha Cooper, one of the world's most famous street art photographers.

A total of 12 artists are at work from Brazil and China, among others. Rotterdam-based artist Satoshi Nakamoto portrayed 50 power women in mosaic. At ALL CAPS, he presents all the works with accompanying background stories. Also on show for the first time in Europe is the exhibition Tools of the Trade, focusing on the history and origins of graffiti and street art. During 'Street Culture Campus', young (female) creators give 10-minute talks.

SUPER SUNDAY September 14

Traditionally, SUPER SUNDAY will be the closing event, when the final release can be seen on 14 September. The end of the festival will be festively celebrated with music by Harry Femer and mini-raves by Don the Baron(NoizBoiz), street food, and a graffiti colouring corner for kids. They can bring their favourite cartoon character to life with spray paint.

''I am extremely proud of what we have achieved with ALL CAPS in recent years. I see up close how the (street) art world is becoming increasingly diverse. That is a justified and important development. This year's theme of female role models fits exactly into that development. It is time to make these untold stories visible in the city," says Katherina Doxiadis (managing director ALL CAPS)

Daniel Claessens (creative director ALL CAPS) concludes, "For the second edition in Beverwaard, we have managed to confirm a spectacular line-up of artists. The programme on the festival day will be extended and we have an upcycle art installation for the kids. In short, I can't wait for us to get started."
