With street doctor Michelle van Tongerloo organized by RotterdamRijker & RotJong.
What does it mean to be a doctor in a world where not everyone has access to care? How can we bring back the human dimension in medicine? During this event, general practitioner and street doctor Michelle van Tongerloo will take us along in her inspiring work. A special edition organized by RotterdamRijker in collaboration with Rotjong.
Together we take on the challenge: how can we create more connection between the professionals of the Weena and the homeless of the Pauluskerk? As a (street) doctor in Rotterdam-Zuid and in the Pauluskerk, Michelle sees the harrowing aspects of our healthcare system every day. People without a permanent residence, without papers or without access to basic facilities—they are her patients. Her experience underlines the essence of care: not just a medical act, but an act of humanity.
This event is not only an insight into her work, but also a call. How can we as a society contribute to a healthier and more just healthcare system? What can physicians, researchers and organizations do to bring about structural change? It promises to be another spectacular evening with live music, inspiring lectures and a nice drink afterwards. You are welcome!
