Yannick: Wagner and Schumann - Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest
It was never Wagner's intention that we should hear his Siegfried Idyll now.
He wrote it as an intimate gift for his wife Cosima. Financial difficulties forced him to have the score published after all; this concert can therefore open with these twenty minutes of perfect tenderness. Mendelssohn's piano concerto - also a musical love letter - and Schumann's effervescent symphony complete the enchantment.
