Waarheid bouwen. Ontwerpen aan rechtvaardigheid
Diverse experts and people with lived experience reflect together on 'the design of justice' and the systems through which freedom and unfreedom are structured in society.
In the run-up to the exhibition Building Truth, diverse experts and people with lived experience reflect together on 'the design of justice' and the systems through which freedom and unfreedom are structured in society. What is needed to be able to call such systems into question, for example, because of their violent colonial origins and their impact on contemporary discrimination? In what ways can designers and other citizens build alternatives that contribute to a more just society? Ethnic profiling and police violence are, more than a collection of individual incidents, the outcomes of structural 'design flaws'. Patterns can be discerned within them that reveal something about the relationship between conventional law enforcement, systemic racism, and the pursuit of social justice. Under the banner of 'designing justice', designers, researchers, activists, and people from affected communities come together. They draw connections between insights from their various domains of knowledge and imagine possible, more just ways of living together.
