The quiet DansBrabant / Anthony van Gog
Theatre maker and choreographer Anthony van Gog works at the intersection of movement, light and sound. With his work, he lets the audience not only watch, but above all feel.
The quiet is an immersion in sound, light and bodies. Centrally located in the space on a raised platform lie three performers. The quietest movements of the body, shivers of insomnia, excitement and fatigue unfold. Bathed in light, in each other, in sweat. Driven by the music and the pulse of the body. The audience is in motion, walking around the theatrical still life. An invitation to the viewer to constantly choose a position, in relation to the sound, the other and the performers.
Come closer or take a step back; what seems quiet at first, turns out to be full of movement. What is recognizable, feels strange. A heartbeat. Involuntary muscle tension, conscious relaxation. A sigh. A groan. A last breath?
With an ingenious scenography of invisible microphones, cinematic soundscape and intimately painting light, the invisible is made tangible. In a world where bodies are increasingly reduced to pixels, data and performance, The quiet brings us back to what it means to be a body: raw, vulnerable and real. An ode to the body in its purest form.
