Set on the dry, windswept islands of Cape Verde—birthplace of some of the world’s most powerful hurricanes—The Coriolis Effect follows the people and animals struggling to survive. Climate change intensifies the storms, but instead of despair, the film reveals a deep-rooted life force. A turtle struggles through plastic, a fisherman gets lost, volunteers clean up trash, and a naturalist rescues injured animals. All life is equally valuable here. “We are ungrateful guests,” says composer Vasco Martins, “but we love the earth and don’t want to leave it.” A poetic ode to resilience, connectedness, and the search for hope in times of crisis.
