Stille portretten langs Route D47

This forms the starting point of the work of the French visual artist 1011. Her drawings originate in her childhood, when as a child she picked up dead birds along the busy Route D47. What was a painful discovery at the time, she now recognizes as an early experience with the Anthropocene.

In 2024, 1011 returned to this road and collected small animals that were killed there: songbirds, butterflies, salamanders, weasels, and hedgehogs. She meticulously draws each animal in large format, like an individual portrait. Inspired by nature illustrations from the 18th century, her colored pencil drawings reveal a confronting reality: the irreversible disappearance of plants and animals.

1011 is a French visual artist, born in 1970 in Brittany. She studied visual arts at the University of Rennes. In her work, which is strongly philosophical in nature, she explores how humanity is increasingly dominated by technology and what the consequences of this are, both in the past and present. This series raises penetrating questions about the loss of everyday biodiversity and our role in it.
