A performance about doubt and identity

In Sessions, choreographer Donna Chittick translates the energy of the hip-hop battle into a story about doubt, identity, and the feeling of having to constantly prove yourself. 5 performers share the stage, each with their own perspective. From hip-hop, a movement language emerges in which bravado and vulnerability exist side by side. Text and dance reinforce each other: the MC gives words to what is happening inside, while the dance makes that tension visible. Sessions is an ode to self-taught creators, vocational education graduates, and everyone who has taken a different path and does not always feel recognized in it.

About Donna Chittick and BackBone

Donna Chittick is a choreographer and artistic director of hip-hop dance company BackBone. As a self-taught artist, she found her place in the hip-hop scene and developed from a dancer into a creator. Since 2016, she has focused on choreography, with work in which physical intensity and personal stories are central. Since 2022, she has led BackBone, a company that creates performances at the intersection of hip-hop, theater, and music. BackBone brings together dancers with different backgrounds and shares knowledge based on the hip-hop principle Each One Teach One.
