After the death of their mother, sisters Nora and Agnes are once again confronted with their father Gustav, a once-celebrated film director who had barely been part of their lives for years. When he presents his latest film script and offers the lead role to Nora, now a successful stage actress, it seems like a cautious attempt to repair their broken family ties. But Nora refuses, after which Gustav asks the young Hollywood star Rachel for the role. As old tensions flare up again and painful memories surface, father and daughters struggle with everything that has remained unspoken for years. Director Joachim Trier (The Worst Person in the World) weaves humour and emotion into a beautifully layered family drama about unresolved grief, the complicated love between parents and children, and the question of whether art can help us finally understand one another. Awarded the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival.
