For the first time outside Japan, artefacts from the rich tradition of senchado will be on display and this special tea ceremony will be demonstrated.
Sencha is the green tea that is drunk daily in Japan, but also plays a central role in a tea ceremony - just as macha does in chanoyu. For the first time, the rich but relatively unknown art of senchado is being introduced to an audience outside Japan. During this world premiere, Shōfūkan presents unique pieces (vases, bowls, attributes, tools, lacquerware) from the estate of the 6th grandmaster of Baisa Hon Ryu senchado, Shimasaki Kison Tonei (1850–1932) - also the founder of Shofu Ryu senchado. This estate was donated to Shōfūkan by the great-granddaughter of Shimasaki sensei, who lives in Toyama. Admission to the exhibition is free.
