Peter Somuah Walking Distance - New Album Release
Walking Distance is a musical journey that connects cultures, genres and everyday life.
By combining post-bop jazz with Arabic melodies, Latin grooves, blues, funk, and the rhythms of Ghanaian music, trumpeter Peter Somuah celebrates the deep connections between seemingly disparate worlds. Inspired by walks through the city and observing the rhythms of daily life, the music reflects a universal pulse that brings us closer together.
Peter Somuah is known for his warm, melancholic trumpet sound and infectious groove, shaped by jazz legends like Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, and Roy Hargrove, as well as his West African musical roots. His compositions move effortlessly between jazz, funk, soul, and traditional Ghanaian music, subtly enriched with electronic elements.
As an award-winning artist, Somuah received the Erasmus Jazz Award in 2021 and the Edison Jazz Award in 2022 for his debut album, Outer Space. He has performed at major international venues, including North Sea Jazz, Jazzbaltica, and Blue Note Beijing and Shanghai, and collaborated with the WDR Big Band in 2024. With Walking Distance, Somuah invites listeners to feel grounded, inspired, and connected through music.
