PASSEPARTOUT
Identity, ancestry and displacement. During this conversation session, we explore how identity is shaped by ancestors, migration, memories, community and environment.
Identity is not seen as something fixed or individual, but as something relational that is constantly changing. Participants receive a pre-designed passport cover made of fruit leather. Based on the conversation, they shape a symbol/emblem that will later be (laser) engraved on the cover. The fruit leather, made from leftover fruit, stands for transformation and for knowledge and stories passed down from generation to generation. During the making process, we talk about borders, belonging, shared human values, and what democracy can look like when we start from what connects us. The session is led by Ximena Dávalos and Veronika Babayan, who developed and made the fruit leather passports. The passports remain together on the Chakana table and form a collective archive of connected identities. After the exhibition closes, participants can collect their passports.
