Naza: A revealing look at Gaza

Naza, by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, sheds light on the systems behind large-scale civilian deaths in Gaza. In this film, the filmmakers behind the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land show how Israeli military and intelligence services determine who is a target and what technologies are used for this. It provides insight into how a significant number of civilian casualties is considered acceptable for eliminating a single target. The film asks the question of how the killing of innocent civilians can become so normalized within a military apparatus.

The meaning of 'Naza'

The title of the film refers to ‘Nezek Agavi’, the Israeli military term for the expected civilian deaths in an airstrike. This concept symbolizes the dehumanization within the system. In it, civilian deaths are not seen as a tragic side effect, but as a foreseen and accepted part of military operations. Naza premiered at the Venice Film Festival and won the Special Jury Prize there.
