MultipliCity is a vocal journey through the soul of the city: raw, layered and full of contrast. From medieval visions to contemporary compositions, you will hear a polyphony of urban voices, echoes and stories.
Why do we live in cities? What do we seek in the noise, the proximity, the polyphony of city life? MultipliCity is a musical exploration of the city as a sounding body—from the monastic chants of Hildegard von Bingen and Kassia to the street cries of Renaissance Paris, from Dufay to brand-new works by Sophia Bardoutsou and Céleste Wright. This collaboration between the collectives BrownOut and FONOS explores themes of decay and rebirth, cathedrals and marketplaces, laments and street sounds. A special moment in the performance is an improvisation on a monumental historical organ. At a time when some cities are celebrating anniversaries and others lie in ruins, the question arises: what remains—of a city, of a person, of a song?
